Replatforming and agentic engineering

Royal Mail Group

From legacy infrastructure to an AI-ready engineering platform

Writepush partnered with Royal Mail to help re-engineer a mission-critical event processing platform responsible for handling more than 100 million events every day across the postal network.

Working as a forward-deployed engineering team alongside Royal Mail, we designed and built a new cloud-native, event-driven architecture to progressively replace a large legacy estate.

The new platform uses Kafka, Kubernetes, Go and modern distributed-systems patterns to create an architecture designed for high throughput, resilience and portability across cloud environments.

But the transformation went beyond the runtime platform.

We introduced an agentic engineering approach in which AI coding agents work with structured specifications, architecture decisions, engineering standards and organisational context — enabling engineers to move from requirements to production software significantly faster while maintaining control over architecture and quality.

Our role spanned technology strategy, systems architecture, platform engineering, software delivery and the introduction of AI-native engineering practices.

The result is not simply a modernised platform, but a new engineering model designed to accelerate how complex software is understood, specified, built and evolved.

Frasers Group

A new MACH e-commerce platform—from prototype to launch in eight months

What started as an experimental e-commerce platform became a multi-faceted, multi-partner transformation programme spanning commerce, operational data, customer intelligence, AI and the engineering organisation itself.

Writepush embedded a senior, hands-on team inside Frasers Group to lead and deliver the transformation. Working across executive, product, engineering and partner boundaries, we took end-to-end ownership—from strategy and architecture through engineering delivery, launch and group-wide rollout.

We established the programme structure and led blended teams across Frasers Group and specialist partners including Valtech, AND Digital, Lab Digital and XCM. The same people setting the direction stayed close to the work—making technical decisions, resolving delivery constraints and driving the platform into production. Writepush remained accountable for the pace and overall outcome, turning multiple organisations and capabilities into one coherent platform and transformation programme.

The first step was a new MACH platform for Sports Direct Europe, taken from prototype to its first market launch in eight months. From there, the platform was rolled out across the Group, creating a shared foundation for its entire brand portfolio.

As the platform expanded, so did the transformation. In parallel, we rolled out a near-real-time Operational Data Layer that moved critical inventory and trading data beyond the constraints of the existing Oracle-centred monolith. Faster access to reliable operational information improved buying decisions and contributed to millions of pounds in savings from reduced overbuying.

A Customer Data Platform then connected customer insight with loyalty, personalisation and retail media, creating both more relevant experiences and new commercial opportunities.

Generative-AI catalogue workflows and agentic commerce became part of the same shared foundation, allowing these capabilities to extend across the brand portfolio rather than remain isolated experiments.

This was not only a new technology platform. It transformed the engineering organisation behind it, creating the structure, practices and capability to deliver and evolve digital products at scale.

Founding engineering and platform build

Superscript (Digital Risks)

Building a first-of-its-kind digital insurance platform

Writepush deployed the founding engineering team for Digital Risks—now Superscript—and built the technology foundation behind a new kind of commercial insurance business.

Working alongside the founders, we designed and delivered an event-sourced, event-driven platform that made it possible for businesses to quote, buy and manage flexible insurance online. The architecture captured every change as an event, creating a complete history of each customer and policy while giving the business the freedom to add products, partners and customer journeys without rebuilding its core.

This was more than a digital front end for a traditional broker. It was a first-of-its-kind platform for an ambitious industry challenger, built around data, integrations and continuous product development from the outset. Our role spanned technology strategy, architecture, product engineering and the creation of the engineering capability that would carry the platform forward.

The foundations have supported a substantial business. Superscript now says it is trusted by more than 28,000 businesses, operates across the UK and Europe, and has a team of over 90 people. It became the first UK insurtech to secure a Lloyd's broker licence, reported more than fivefold customer growth between its Series A and £45 million Series B, and most recently reported strong double-digit annual revenue growth.

E-commerce replatforming

Theo Paphitis Retail Group

Replatforming a multi-brand retailer for the cloud

Following a successful engagement with Made.com, Writepush continued to establish its presence in e-commerce by partnering with the Theo Paphitis Retail Group.

We helped replatform the Group's e-commerce estate and move it from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud in record time. The work created a faster, more scalable foundation across its retail brands while reducing the constraints of the existing platform.

We also re-engineered the catalogue-browsing experience by integrating Elasticsearch. The new approach gave merchandising teams greater control over how products were presented and discovered, improved visual merchandising and delivered a significant uplift in conversion.

Our role combined architecture, hands-on engineering and delivery, helping the Group modernise critical digital commerce capabilities at pace without slowing the day-to-day business.

Senior leaders who still build

Who we are

Alex Haproff founded Writepush after years spent helping startups assemble their founding engineering teams and turn early ideas into the first working versions of their products.

From the beginning, we were willing to rethink the traditional consultancy model. Our early startup engagements included taking a small equity stake in exchange for delivering a finished product—sharing both the risk and the belief in what we were helping to build.

That founding mentality still shapes how we work. We deploy small numbers of deeply technical, hands-on people rather than large teams built around layers of management. Every engagement is led by someone with experience at Director, Head of Engineering or VP Engineering level, typically earned agency-side or inside a startup where judgement matters and shipping quickly is essential.

Our people can operate at executive level, set technology strategy and make difficult architectural decisions—but they also stay close to the work. They write code, solve delivery problems and work directly alongside client teams to get valuable software into production.

Today, that approach extends from early product development to complex enterprise transformation. Our expertise spans AI-native software engineering, distributed and event-driven systems, cloud-native architecture, platform engineering and the modernisation of critical legacy estates.
